Romour has it that olive tree is the first tree to grow on earth. It is the first tree saying “I am here” after Noah’s Flood. It is not fastidious and it doesn’t need watering; moist of the air is enough for it. Lovers, shepherds, exhausted people rest in its shadow. It symbolises life, wisdom and peace first of all. Resentful ones hold out the olive branch, girls dance on its trunk and lovers hug. Sun changes its colour; sometimes it is silver, sometimes all kinds of green, sometimes yellow, sometimes orange, sometimes iron red. In due time, olives cover all over; it doesn’t play hard, gives itself up to its owner’s hands. It takes days; the tree doesn’t get bored, hands don’t get tired. Anatolian people dote upon olives, olives pass through many labourer hands. Days pass, sun rises and sun sets for an olive to have a magical taste in your mouth. And, when you wake up with the misty smell of fresh tea, black pearls and green emeralds appear on the table. The story begins with us and continues with you in every morning, with a different end.
